How does Andrew Niccol encode his ideas of visual language of this film Gattaca?
Wardrobe:
Throughout the movie Vincent is presented as a determined ambitious man. This is supported by the way he represents himself such as how he dresses. At the beginning of the movie Vincent is pictured dressing scruffy. He dresses in messy beige shirts, big round glasses and chaotic hair. Andrew Niccol cleverly designs Vincent’s wardrobe to show he is inferior and doesn’t have the perfect genetic makeup. However Vincent and his fashion changes tremendously changes when he meets genetic modified Jerome Marrow. When he takes on the opportunity to live life as Jerome he goes from being messy boy to a smart, clean cut man. He wears a dark double breasted suit with his hair gelled perfectly so there is no hair out of place which makes him fit in the Gattaca environment. When Vincent gains entrance in Gattaca by faking his identity and changing his wardrobe he is now accepted into a higher rank of society.

Other visual feature Andrew Niccol is the modern architecture relating and reminded us of the genetic theme.
